Electric
Utility Water Processing:
Electric
utility companies have numerous sources of oily water that
often must be processed before discharge. MSR is able to
offer solutions for treatment of these waters, often utilizing
existing pits or structures to minimize costs while still
meeting regulatory requirements. Please contact MSR for
suggestions on designs that are economical and effective.
Some of the applications in this industry are:
Hydroelectric
Dam / Turbine Leakage Water
Most
hydroelectric dams experience some leaks around the turbine
bbearings, both lubricating oils and some of the water.
This causes the water to become contaminated and the contaminated
water must be treated to remove the oil before it can be
discharged. Likewise, there is often some leakage through
the dam structure into the machinery spaces where the water
can be contaminated by leaked lubricating oil from many
sources. This water must also be treated for removal of
the oil before discharge.
MSR
recently completed the design and supplied the equipment
for two large separators for processing leakage water at
a hydroelectric facility in Canada. Each of these systems
is designed for 9000 US gpm (2050 m3/ hour) and is a retrofit
of new high efficiency MSR internals in existing concrete
sumps. The design of this system also included reuse of
the existing dewatering pumps and installation of new MSR
belt skimmers for removal of captured oil from the sumps.
The reuse of existing sumps and pumps made this a very economical
installation for the flow rates.
The
drawing below shows a cutaway side view of the installation
including the belt skimmers. All of the equipment shown
in the sumps is new except the pumps. The MSR design reusing
the existing sumps and pumps saved the customer almost a
million dollars over the alternative designs.

Transformer
Installation Stormwater / Firefighting Water
Electric
utilities have transformer stations, often both remotely
located and located directly at the generating facility.
Many of these stations have existing concrete catch basins
that may be useful for oil water separators if refitted
with high efficiency MSR internals. MSR has been involved
in the design of numerous systems of this type and will
be glad to offer suggestions on the design of either completely
new systems or refitting existing systems. We always take
into account the possibility of spills and / or fire in
our designs for this type station to account for all possible
cases.
Please
contact
MSR for suggestions on designs that are economical and
effective.
Stormwater
Processing Systems for Utility Plants
MSR
Coalescing systems are often installed in underground concrete
vaults, either cast-in-place or precast to process stormwater
from industrial and commercial facilities.
MSR
will be glad to provide kits of equipment for installation
in existing or new cast-in-place systems and has arrangements
with some concrete precast vault companies to provide complete
systems ready to install in the ground.
MSR
stormwater systems are guaranteed to produce effluent that
will meet the requirements for discharge for either 10 mg/l
or 15 mg/l effluent quality as required.
